Brides are ditching strapless necklines, but what are they wearing instead?
That is what we are going to cover in this post. The most sought after bridal necklines that are NOT strapless. For years the strapless wedding gown was considered the default style. But modern brides are rewriting the rules.
Why are brides saying goodbye to strapless?
There are few different reasons why today's brides are saying NO to strapless, and yes to other necklines. But here are a few of the top reasons:
1. Fit Issues
Brides don't want to be constantly adjusting their dress all day long. Worrying about it slipping down, and dealing with limited mobility. Brides want to feel comfortable, and fashion forward for their entire wedding day.
2. Style & Trend Shifts
Modern bridal fashion is changing. We are seeing more styles that are fashion-forward, tailored, and intentional. Strapless gowns can feel generic and conventional by comparison.
3. Designer are Ditching Strapless
Bridal designers drive the direction fashion is heading. And many are opting for necklines that feel new and fresh. We are seeing more sculpted necklines, dramatic sleeves, and architectural structure. It is no longer about just showing off your shoulders. Modern designers are more concerned with shaping the silhouette of a bride from top to bottom.
So...What are Brides Wearing Instead?
01. Off-The-Shoulder Romance

Off-the-shoulder gowns are elegant and romantic. Like this luxurious gown from Jenny Yoo with puff off-the-shoulder sleeves. Off-the-shoulder necklines give you a bit more coverage than strapless styles, while still allowing you to show off your neck and shoulders.
02. Regal High Necklines & Mock Necks

High and mock necklines are trending in a big way in bridal fashion right now. These regal and sophisticated styles give you more support and coverage than a strapless gown, without sacrificing style. And we are just loving this semi-sheer lace high neck gown from Monique Lhuillier. This gown has a high collared neckline, but it feels anything but modest. It is confident and modern, and everything a bride could ask for!
03. Sheer Sleeves & Illusion Bodices

Sheer sleeves and illusion bodices allow you to have more support and coverage than strapless styles, but with a sensual edge. And we cannot get over how gorgeous the sheer lace sleeves are on this gown from Suzanne Neville. They elevate this gown in such a sophisticated way.
04. Confident Halters

Show off your shoulders, while still having a supportive bridal look that will keep you confident and comfortable all day long. Halter necklines have made a big comeback in bridal fashion, and we have to admit we are loving it. And this elegant, cowl neckline halter gown from Grace Loves Lace shows why halters are an irresistible choice for a bride who is ready to ditch strapless.
05. Asymmetrical One-Shoulder Gowns

Single shoulder, asymmetric wedding dress necklines feel fresh and modern. They are an elegant, yet a dramatic option that is less predicable than a strapless style. And this single shoulder gown from Dana Harel is an absolute dream. Effortlessly draped satin with a open back that wraps around to the side of the gown.
06. Modern Square & Straight Necklines

Square and straight necklines are trending for good reason. They are clean and modern. And they still give you an open style, without sacrificing the comfort and support of straps. And we are absolutely in love with this square neckline style from Sarah Seven with its thin spaghetti straps and side V cutouts.
How to Choose the Right Neckline for YOU:
Choosing the right neckline for you is not about what is trending at the moment. It is about finding the right style that fits your unique body type and preferences. You want a neckline that makes you feel confident (and comfortable!) all day long. A neckline that fits your personality. Think about where you want the attention to be when it comes to the neckline of your dress. What features do you want to show off? How do you want to be able to move on your big day, and what necklines will help you feel comfortable? And most importantly, what do you feel most confident in? What neckline do you love, but that also makes you feel amazing. If you can find one that checks all of these boxes, then you have a winner!
